Pretty good story about one car.
A couple of years ago a friend of mine asked me to go with him to a dealership and help him negotiate a price on one vehicle with a v8 biturbo engine. I don't remember the exact displacement. As we got there we found the car, it was 2012 model with about 40000 km on it ( more or less and with original manufacture's warranty). The price was 40k$ (taxes on top).
We brought the price down to 33k with taxes above it. He couldn't believe how good the deal was, but I pulled him out of it. So we received a call from the dealer the next day, and with some more negotiation we were able to move the taxes down into the price (33k and no taxes). It was a good deal, and we were going to that dealer to finalize it and hopefully grab the car. For some reason I told him to make a stop at another dealership where we asked a sales rep to pull out all the info on that car (claims, full history, notorious problems specific to that model). He gave us the following information: this model was famous for an engine swap at about 80k km, and there is a line up of customers to get it fixed. To my question if there were any symptoms, he said there were no signs and symptoms. We also asked him how far would our place be in the line, he said 274th.
And as it happens, the car is not drivable.
Now, what surprised me even more, he still wanted it despite the fact that he has children and they needed to go to school in a year or two (to my understanding, everything that is related to school and education in general is of prime importance).
Guess with three attempts what car it was.

хм. Дилеры, это не так чтобы самая честная категория хьюманов. Они могут накормить вас БС-ом просто так, в силу привычки, because they can.
Я поверю в эту страшилку не ранее чем будут известны детали, т.е. модель машины/двигателя.

Да и чтобы мотор свопили через 40 к - это не мерс точно.

Но если камрад хочет именно такой бимер, и без него будет несчастен, так может пусть лучше покупает.

Ради чего моторы меняли? Эта машина - нот драйвабл- дилер предлагал купить авто и забыл сказать что у неё нет мотора? В любом случае получить двухлетку с новым мотором за пол цены нового авто.. неплохой дил, не?

Если я правильно перевел (ingvar, по-русски писать никак не получается?), у кандидата на покупку пока все было нормально, но, если верить статистике, через 2-4 года можно налететь на замену движка, и при этом оказаться 300-м, ожидающим процедуры в очереди таких же страдальцев.
