For Ray Dalio, bitcoin is like a digital version of gold — but the billionaire clearly values one higher than the other.
“If you put a gun to my head, and you said, ‘I can only have one,’” says Dalio. “I would choose gold.”
Dalio, who turns 72 on Sunday, revealed in May that he owns an undisclosed amount of bitcoin, after previously raising concerns about cryptocurrencies for years. Still, he isn’t completely sold on the concept.
“I own a very small amount of bitcoin. I’m not a big owner,” Dalio now tells CNBC Make It. “There are certain assets that you want to own to diversify the portfolio, and bitcoin is something like a digital gold.”
He has long been a bit of a gold bull: In 2019, he wrote on LinkedIn that adding gold can help balance one’s portfolio because it is both risk-reducing and return-enhancing. Last year, Bridgewater poured more than $400 million into gold during the second quarter.

There are multiple arguments to say BTC is going to lose the longterm crypto race. Some say mining is from the past (already )

But the main reason(s) are this.. in my opinion;

BTC has no team developing the coin. This has few advantages.. and multiple disadvantages;

BTC is already slow compared to other coins. Eth 2.0 update is promising that the transaction speed will scale to 100.000 transactions a second. That's unbelievable compared to the 30 eth a second it is now at.

hackability; it is calculated that a supercomputer in 10 years should be able to hack BTC. Now I don't think that it will do that, because this tool will not be used by hackers.. but by some governmental instantion.. but what happens 10 year later? The fear of BTC code being hackable will make the coin lose vs ETH for example.. updating their code to 2.0.

Mining. Tbf I do not think this is the biggest problem.. but eth is promising to come with "proof of stake".. an innovating way of mining, not using much "real life" energy. Because.. why should something virtual really use so much energy other than giving it "value".. I am still quite green on this subject, but I do think ETH team is right here.

DYOR. I am sure you will find more reasons, as I did too. I will not sum them all up here.

transaction costs for example. Ever paid $50+ for an crypto transaction?? Outrageous.. considering banks even charge $0 nowadays. This will be tackled by future crypto's.. but not the old mammoth coin BTC.
