The highest paid CEOs have gained more ground in Canada, and are now making nearly 200 times the average Canadian wage, according to a new report.

The 100 highest paid chief executives whose companies are listed on the S&P/TSX composite index made an average of $8.38 million in 2010, according to figures pulled from circulars by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, a left-leaning think-tank.

That's 189 times higher than the $44,366 an average Canadian made working full time in 2010, the report says. And it's a 27 per cent raise from the $6.6 million average compensation for the top 100 CEOs in 2009.

А в сущности нужно ли это?
1. сколько этих людей, получающих несуразную зарплату? Да и кто оценивал несправедливость этой зарплаты?
2. как быть с людьми, которые имеют доход не меньше, чем эти СЕО, но это не зарплата, а результат успешной рыночной деятельности? Как быть с теми же хоккеистами, теннисистами? Тоже отобрать?
3. Что эти СЕО делают со своими зарплатами? Проедают, закапывают, тратят в казино и на наркотики? Имхо, они вкладывают их в дело. В свое или чужое. Конвертируют во власть. Платят исполнителям своих прихотей. Что в этом плохого?
4. Что касается собственно больших денег, то сохранить накопления тоже довольно тяжкий труд. Деньги порабощают - читайте Маркса. Если бы эти деньги принадлежали государству, то для управления ими пришлось нанять бы чиновников - которые врядли бы смогли распорядиться ими эффективно.
5. существует масса людей, которые ничего не делают, но только потребляют - нищие, больные, старые, дети, да и просто бездельники. Как с ними быть?
6. хотим ли мы повторять совковый эксперимент?

Имхо, сначала надо ответить на эти вопросы, а потом уже возмущаться и призывать других возмущаться - доходами СЕО.

The RCMP in B.C. is coming under fire again for the use of Tasers and restraints in the death of a Prince George man, and for the internal investigation conducted after his death.

In 2003, Clay Willey was hog-tied and shocked with two Tasers simultaneously by officers at the Prince George detachment. He died hours later in hospital.

The burden of unemployment is worse than Statistics Canada’s official number suggests

This morning Statistics Canada reported that the unemployment rate increased to 7.6%, confirming a rising trend since July of last year and still significantly above the low of about 6% just before the recession took hold in the autumn of 2008.

But in the end we can’t clearly see the faces of real people behind this number, which at best is an incomplete picture of waste and hardship.

According to official calculations the average monthly unemployment rate during 2011 was 7.4%, but the more comprehensive measure implies 10.6%.

The official rate understates the waste of human resources, but it also doesn’t tell us about the hardship being experienced.

Only 12% of all the unemployed in 2008 had spent six or more months looking for a job. But in 2011 more than one-in-five, fully 21%, were in this situation. Between these years the average length of an unemployment spell jumped by a month and half, from 14.8 weeks to 21.1 weeks.

Use possible torture info in 'exceptional' cases, CSIS told

The federal government has directed Canada's spy agency to use information that may have been extracted through torture in cases where public safety is at stake.

The order represents a reversal of policy for the Conservative government, which once insisted the Canadian Security Intelligence Service would discard information if there was any inkling it might be tainted.

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews has quietly told CSIS the government now expects the spy service to "make the protection of life and property its overriding priority."

A copy of the two-page December 2010 directive was obtained by The Canadian Press under the Access to Information Act.

Насчет оружия.

Если государство лишает меня определенных возможностей защищать мою жизнь, то оно обязано обеспечить мне стопроцентную безопасность.
Реально ли это? Нет. Этого не произойдет никогда.
А раз так, я требую себе права защищать свою жизнь на том же уровне, на каком злоумышленник может ее отнять. Если максимум, чем может воспользоваться злоумышленник - кремневый нож, пусть и меня будет такой нож. Если бейсбольная бита - тоже хочу такую. Если это великий уравнитель "Кольт", я требую и себе револьвер.

Кстати, сколько убийств совершается теми же битами? Сковородками, табуретками, ножницами, утюгами, бутылками? А утопить можно в стиральной машине. А задушить можно лифчиком или колготками - почему это до сих пор не под запретом? И почему на дак-тэйп до сих пор нет лицензии как на concealed carry - все киднапперы и маньяки только ей и пользуются. Про величайшего убийцу в странах "первого мира" - ДВС, поставленного на четыре колеса - вообще горестно промолчим...
Итак, почему же все это не предается анафеме? Ответ: потому что всем этим граждане противостоять Государству не могут. А могут только огнестрельным оружием. Поэтому любое государство по мере наращивания своего влияния (привет тебе, социализм!) стремится отнять у граждан возможность противостоять государственному террору. И там, где государству удалось-таки народ разоружить, оно может далее не стесняться в средствах. (Примеры, думаю, не требуются.)
Отняв у меня право на оружие, государство неминуемо (это законы общественного развития) начнет отнимать и ваши права - на все остальное. "Возразить"-то никто не сможет.
Жаль, что вы этого не понимаете.

...the Nazis are no longer with us, whereas today’s practitioners of torture are very much in action, in countries around the world. It is legitimate to be concerned that Canada’s willingness to use the information they produce would, in effect, create a “demand” for torture (though I rather doubt the supply would dry up in our absence) or indeed open the door to the sort of nod-and-wink outsourcing of brutality we have seen before. That would certainly be a concern if it were generally the practice to use such information, but it cannot be ruled out even in the more circumscribed policy the government has adopted.
