Центральным политическим сюжетом последних суток стал конфликт Трампа с министром обороны Марком Эспером. Накануне Эспер заявил, что не поддержит участие регулярной армии в разгоне протестующих, потом его поддержал предшественник, уволенный Трампом Джим Мэттис.
Трамп, похоже, не очень понимает, что делать с оппозицией военных: после заявления Эспера у них был неприятный разговор в Овальном кабинете, потом Трамп советовался, стоит ли увольнять главу Пентагона, а на последующем брифинге представитель Белого дома ушел от вопросов и сказал лишь, что Эспер «все еще работает».
