Meet with an intake worker
An Intake Worker will:
welcome and register you
provide settlement information
discuss your needs for settlement
develop a plan with you
refer you to programs and services at ISIS and in the community
sign you up for the Starting Point Program – an orientation to living in Nova Scotia
Discuss your language needs
English Language Testing
After you register with ISIS, if you need language training, we can help you make an appointment with a Language Assessment service to assess your language skills.
Decide which programs are best for you
Language Training
After you have an English language test, the Language Counsellor will help you identify your language goals. The Language Counsellor will help you choose the training that meets your needs. ISIS offers language training on-site as well as distance and online programs.
Pre-employment
An Employment Specialist can help you identify your career goals and suggest programs that will help you meet your objectives. Employment Specialists can help you research your field, develop and revise resumes and cover letters, determine the pathway to licensure in your field or profession, and learn more about and practice job search and interview skills.
Business Development
A Business Counsellor will help you identify the supports and training you need for reaching your goals and growing your business in Nova Scotia. ISIS offers business related training on-site as well as online.

Settlement Counselling
After you have registered with an intake worker, they may suggest you meet with a Settlement Counsellor.
Your Settlement Counsellor will provide support for:
banking and budgeting
community supports and programs (examples: family resource centers, libraries, YMCA, recreation facilities)
federal and provincial services and programs (examples: Child Tax Benefit, Nova Scotia Health Card, Income Assistance)
health
housing
life in Canada (laws, rights, and responsibilities)
school systems
stress and culture shock
To access ISIS Settlement Services you must first go through intake and register as an ISIS client.
