Position: Database Administrator / Junior Database Architect
Work Schedule: Full Time
Organizational Relationships
Reports to: Senior Database Architect
Coordinates with: Customer Care, Network Operations, Product Management / Marketing, QA, other members of the Software Engineering team
Job Description
The successful applicant will join an established team involved in designing, creating and documenting database-driven, modular, scalable Java, C/C++ and PHP5 tools which interact with a multitude of other applications utilizing a common API in a highly distributed networking environment. Responsibilities will include database imports / exports, data reconciliation with 3rd parties, configuration and maintenance of internal and distributed databases, etc.
Essential Functions
Communicate clearly with managers and other team members
Perform database administration tasks such as import / export, synchronization, maintenance, etc.
Participate in the design and implementation of complex, distributed, database-driven applications in Java, C/C++ and/or PHP5
Understand, modify and document changes to existing codebase
Properly manage time while working on/supporting more than one project
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of SQL
Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Oracle a strong asset
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Debugging and documentation skills
Good understanding of Linux/UNIX system administration
Good understanding of common scripting languages in *IX environment
Good understanding of relational database design
Good understanding of networking, network administration and network programming
Experience with software design and development (C/C++/Java)
Experience with and understanding of Subversion and similar tools
Qualifications
The successful applicant will have up to 2 years of programming experience in a Linux/UNIX environment, a proven track record of working with SQL databases (especially PostgreSQL and/or Oracle) and industry or post-secondary certification in database administration/architecture (or demonstrably equivalent experience). Experience with specific programming languages (Java, C/C++, PHP, Perl, etc.) will be taken into account. Other post-secondary education and/or industry certification are both assets.
Recent graduates are welcome.
