DW consists usually from ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) procs, Catalog and datamarts.
Sometimes Global Catalog absent and each DM has its own.
Sometimes DM's catalogs elaborate GC.
Sometimes DW has staging area for cleansing/transformations and for shared dimentions and fact tables. Sometimes dims and FTs are stored in each DM.
Very depends on circumstances and tools...
Users usually access DMs - OLAP cubes.
