Class action suit against car-making companies

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A B.C. class action lawsuit claims some big car-making companies are trying to restrict your right to buy a car from the United States. The lawsuit names manufacturers like Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.
The suit, fronted by Todd MacDonald from Westport Motorcars, contends the companies have thrown up several artificial barriers to keep you from getting a car at the best price. "We have manufacturers saying the car is non-compliant and you can't bring it into Canada, or sure you can bring it in, but you have to pay four or five thousand dollars to bring it into compliance, and we're going to make you wait six weeks for that to happen."
MacDonald says depending on make and model, you might end up paying up to 50% more for a car in Canada compared to the United States. He points out similar lawsuits have already been successful in Europe.
MacDonald says if you imported a car and feel you were charged too much, you can sign on to the law suit here.
