imho -- жесть!
So, I got a gift certificate for Christmas for a photo session for my dog with Off-Leash Photography; a lady that specializes in pet photography in the Vancouver area. (it was a gift, I'm not one of those crazy pet people who sign birthday cards with the pets' names)
So, made the booking, had the photo shoot, the photos turned out well,, and she asked me how many prints I wanted to order from her. I said I don't want prints, just a digital album because I don't really use photo albums any more. I was willing to pay for a CD of the images.
She said that she would sell me the digital photos for $150 EACH!!! So for the bargain basement price of $6,900, I could have the digitals (for 46 images), or she would burn me a CD if I bought more than $1,000 in prints.

I am not defending the photographer's actions; however some photographers do have fine print that must be read and it is in most situations the buyer's fault for falling into the trap.
For instance what if I shot everything on film because I like to shoot film -- forget the "digital era" that sounds more like a cliche. Does this mean I have to give you film even if the agreement stipulates that the session is free and I only profit when you order enlargements from me?
The same goes with digital capture, it doesn't make it any cheaper for the photographer in real money to go out on the field and do the same amount of work --she has to earn a living somehow and some people don't realize that yes, it does only take a few hours to take photos then why is it so expensive? The answer to this questions is because photographers don't make regular wages and have to charge enough so they can earn a comfortable living. A photographer who charges $200 for one single order is a failure because he or she can't earn a living photographing and practically donates his or her time.
If all I offer is enlargements in the agreement and the session is free then it is an ethical way of doing business. Some or most photography businesses try to scheme technical jargon into the agreement leading the client to sign it without fully understanding the meaning of the contract. For example "digital negatives included" means that you most likely only get low resolution files -- it's a misleading terminology so when you do sign an agreement and you want to get digital files, the agreement must be read something like this, "full resolution files will be included" furthermore full res. files can be further understood that you get full resolution JPEGS and no RAW's....
I personally would never practice this kind of business because this is not how I want to make my name in the business but if this structure makes this particular photographer money then Caveat Emptor.
