The estimated economic impact of the Russian Figure Skating team training camp is
$88,000 which does not include spectator expenditures. “We have received inquiries
from all over the Lower Mainland asking if they can watch the Russian Figure Skaters
train and can they buy tickets”, says Longshore. “I wish I could have seen their faces
when I told them yes you can watch them train and it’s free.”

The Russian Figure Skating team will be holding their pre-Games training camp in Abbotsford from Feb. 1-17 at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC).

The Russian squad has offered a training clinic to the Abbotsford Figure Skating Club as part of their stay.

The public is welcome to watch the Russian skaters train from a designated viewing area on the second floor of the ARC anytime during their training camp. Seating is limited so the public should be prepared to be rotated out every 20 to 30 minutes depending on the demand.

A public meet and greet and community barbecue with the Russian skaters will be held on Feb. 7 from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the ARC.
On this date, during the morning and evening practices, all 380 plus arena seats will be open for the public to watch the Russians trains.

To top off the day, the Torch arrives the same day in Abbotsford and will be coming through the ARC at approximately 4:50 p.m

heineken-house Opens on Feb 11th (4pm): Located near the O Zone in Richmond, the highlight of the Holland Heineken House experience is the main hall, which can host thousands of people every night, and features celebratory medal ceremonies for successful Dutch athletes as well as nightly performances by renowned Dutch artists and DJ’s. The Holland Heineken House is located in Minoru Arenas in the Richmond O Zone and is open daily from February 12 to 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. (February 11, at 4 p.m.). Along with the nightly live entertainment, there is lots to do during the daytime in the Holland Heineken House such as shopping, internet surfing, getting health checks, competing virtually against Olympic athletes, watching sports on dozens of screens, reading, eating, drinking and watching several sponsor events.

Entrance to the Holland Heineken House is free of charge, but ID must be shown. Minors (those less than 19 years) should be accompanied by an adult at all times. Those under 14 years of age are not allowed in the venue after 8 p.m. We're also advised that 400 Dutch bikes will be available for free for guests to use. Сегодня вечером гуляли возле Минору парка - там на парковке (которая около библиотеки) как раз стоят те самые 400 велосипедов для завтрашнего велопробега. Поболтали с голландцами - очень были доброжелательные, пускали пофотографировать и все такое. А строители голландского дома там на этих великах катались периодически

Кстати, как раз сегодня после прогулки я разобралась со своими ощущениями по поводу Олимпикс... Наверно, когда смотришь олимпиаду по телевизору и она где-то далеко, все воспринимается очень "гламурно" , неообычно, далеко и поэтому недоступно и т.п., а когда что-то подобное происходит в твоем "backyard" и перемешивается с повседневной жизнью, то наверно это и воспринимается по-другому (ну типа как Голландский дом в "твоем" ледовом дворце ). С одной стороны вроде как действительно exciting etc, а с другой стороны, наверно думаешь, что должно быть все как-то еще необычней...КОряво выразилась наверно, но может у кого-то еще подобные ощущения...

А вообще все равно интересно!

А на конечной станции скайтрейна Кинг Джордж, в Holland Park, каждый вечер в 8.00 будут парады конной полиции (RCMP Music Ride), каток и др. развлечения.

"Бомбардир" отменный, мне понравился.

House of Switzerland какой-то непонятный - я ожидал увидеть там что-то типа миниатюрной выставки о стране, хотя бы небольшую фотогалерею. А там ничего подобного НЕТ
Час-полтора в день шоколадки раздают - и всё, в основном заведение работает как обычный ресторан. Несерьёзно

Was there today and was quite disappointed. Was there by lunch and the hostess said, there was nothing special except that their menu had additional swiss specialties. While we ordered, the waiter was surprised to know that guests receive a free bottle of water (i checked the pdf file provided by this site and it was supposed to also go with chocolate and biscuits with coffee)... I was expecting to have my children learn a thing or two about switzerland by taking them to this "house" but apparently all they learned was that Lindt chocolates are from switzerland. A far cry from the Northern House.

We went there today for the "Celebration of Swiss Culture," scheduled from 3-6pm. The server at the door didn't know that anything special was supposed to be happening, and indeed, nothing seemed to be...

Went there and was very disappointed. The description above is not accurate to what is actually going on. Went there today, no samples, no information about Switzerland itself. Just a restaurant with swiss food. Unimpressed.

А мы ездили в Абботсфорд в воскресенье посмотреть на тренировки наших фигуристов. Желающих было много, но посмотреть удалось всем. Что удивительно, помимо русских, было много и канадцев. Так что испытали прилив чувства гордости за державу
Людей, стоящих в очереди, и фрагменты треноровок, снимал 1й российский Канал. Сегодня этот сюжет уже показали по ТВ.
Так что, кому интересно, съездите, ещё много тренировок будет, в том числе и вечерних.

Что там мои любимые итальянцы в Раундхаузе ? Они начали с 6 февраля отмечать! Кто-нибудь был уже?Концертов там ожидается куча....и еды всякой...
Потом надо у франзузов отметиться обязательно. Как никак 400 исполнителей пригнали
Сегодня идем в Рашен сайнз-у нас приятель неожиданно нарисовался в Олимпийском комитете.
Немцы построили внушительный павильон сразу за Ватерфронтом,где была стоянка.аккуратно,быстро По-немецки. Будет там пиво рекой и крутая музыка до утра а остальные в клуб гребцов в Стенли до 2 ночи танецевать...
