Key Accountabilities / Activities:

Operations team, which
excels in providing the technology and operations
leadership that will make
our client a world-class bank. This will allow you the
opportunity to be part of
an effective and efficient provision of the production
IT services, such as
telecommunications and computing platforms that enable
our company to bring new products and services to
market within competitive
time frames.
The group is responsible for maintaining the stability,
security and
reliability of our client's core computing facilities,
networks and platforms to
pre-defined service levels. We continue to expand our
infrastructure such as
through our new initiative, Connected Enterprise, which
will enable the bank
to efficiently share information amongst employees,
customers and suppliers.
Reporting to a team leader in the Global Database
Administration and
Engineering, this is a team member who is providing
level 2 database
support(Sybase & MS SQL Server). The role is
responsible for ensuring the
effective operations support, production build-out and
continuous
improvement of our client's global database support and
services.
Major Activities:
1. Support production environments, configuration,
testing, and performance
tuning of all Sybase and SQLServer database
environments.
- Verify the database support requests and execute them
in timely manner.
- Coordinate and oversee ongoing maintenance and
upgrades for all Sybase &
MS SQL Server DBMS's with internal teams and external
service providers
- Manage the production, deployment & maintenance of a
clustered Sybase and
SQL Server database. Provide expertise around
optimizing performance and
ensuring high-availability.
- Provide consulting services to application teams and
posses good
understanding of our client's DBMS standards and system
infrastructure.
- Provide rigorous testing for new Sybase /MS SQL
Server releases and
patches, configuration changes, indexing strategies,
maintenance routines,
upgrade and data migration strategies, data
distribution (replication)
strategies, extraction-transformation-load (ETL)
strategies, high
availability strategies, disaster recovery, and other
application design
strategies.
2. Managing problem/project tickets queue and
maintaining communication with
business team members.
- Consult with problem/project ticket owners in
resolving issues and
executing scripts as per the requirements.
- Continuously monitor the request queue and prioritize
tickets in the queue
as per the guidelines from the management.
- Responsible for successful execution of the ticket,
documenting status,
providing feedback to the owner and closure of the
tickets.
3. Actively provide leadership and technical expertise
to ongoing problem
identification/resolution and root cause analysis
process for our client's database
system environment:
- Develop and improve our client's standards for
database administration and
monitoring tools
- Accountable for adhering to problem management
process for DBMS related
incidents consistent with Global processes to meet
service expectations of
regional customers.
- Provide mentorship to developers and Command Centre
analysts in all
aspects of database management, automation,
troubleshooting, and problem
resolution.
- Accountable for problem determination,
troubleshooting and resolution of
database/data warehouse-driven application problems
through use of system
diagnostic utilities and industry recognized best
practices.
- Participates in the improvement of support processes,
subject matter
expertise, and technical capabilities with the Database
Services and Command
Center teams to continuously improve service delivery
and efficiencies.
4. Participate as a team member in evaluating system
resource utilization
and storage usage/capacity, and makes recommendations
to increase
application performance to meet business and financial
requirements.
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years experience in administering, testing,
and support of
midrange and large-scale Sybase & SQLServer DBMS
environment. Proven
experience in supporting VLDB or data warehousing
environments
Proven expert knowledge of:
- Sybase Administration
- SQL Server Administration
- Preferable Microsoft Certified DBA
- Good Win2K Advanced Server administration skills.
- Detailed knowledge of general Unix, Windows and
Network utilities
- Exposure to current Global Technology Infrastructure
standards highly
desired (see below):
- HP Openview
- Automated cross platform work/job schedulers
- Ethernet networking
- TCP/IP network Protocol and functions/utilities (e.g.
