B.C. most financially vulnerable province: TD

Canadians need to tackle their debt loads, but people from British Columbia are the most financially vulnerable of all, TD Bank warned Wednesday.

HST costing B.C. families $350 a year

An independent government report on the HST has concluded the majority of British Columbians are paying more at the cash register since the introduction of the HST -

- families pay an average of $350 more every year on routine expenditures under the HST.
- if your family is one of the 15 per cent of B.C. families that report income of less than $10,000 a year, you're actually better off under the HST," it says.
- HST will also cost you more if you buy a newly built home that is worth more than $525,000."
- The report also acknowledged that the HST has shifted the greater share of taxes from business to individuals and families.

"Because more things are taxed than before - including newly built homes - families now pay a total of $1.33 billion more in sales tax after HST rebates and tax breaks are taken into account," it said.
"Businesses will pay about $730 million less in taxes."

Если, например, Telus начал брать за телефон 30.49 после введения ГСТ вместо прежних 28.61 в месяц, то что заставит его понизить цену? Или речь идет только о ресторанах?

Как и о том, что заверения местных либералов - extra revenues from the HST would be balanced out by tax breaks and rebates - не подтвердились.

И в чем улучшилось состояние тех 15% семей с доходом менее $10,000 в год. Жизнь на такие деньги просто невозможно представить. Это как-то по-другому называется.

-а почему имменно в ванкувере? нет денег на ванкувер - переселяемся в китай, а китайцы сюда.

-на севере ВС еще и не такое можно представить и увидеть, есть деревни где никто не работает, в основном нэйтивы живущие на дотациях. В тех краях работа на заправке за базовую зарплату в час это практически пик эволюции.

а вот если поднять жо и податься куда-нибудь, где работа есть, то возможно жизнь сама собою наладится.

The BC government has announced it will cut the HST to 10 per cent if British Columbians decide to keep the tax in next month's referendum

some details:

If British Columbians vote to keep the HST in the referendum next month, the rate will be cut to 10 per cent by 2014, Finance Minister Kevin Falcon announced on Wednesday.

The cut would be in two stages, to 11 per cent on July 1, 2012 and to 10 per cent on July 1, 2014.

In addition, all families with children under 18 and lower income seniors will get by the end of the year a one-time transition cheque, which will be $175 for each child and $175 for seniors.

The rebates now being sent out to low income British Columbians will continue.

The tax cuts and checks will be financed with an increase in the general corporate income tax from 10 per cent to 12 per cent on Jan. 1, 2012 and an increase in tobacco taxes. In addition, the reduction in the small business tax rate to zero, which was to have taken effect on April 1, 2012, is being postponed indefinitely.

Returning to the PST/GST would not necessarily mean bringing back all the old exemptions, however, Falcon said.
