Неllo everyone, (BCNU Council and staff)
As you may be aware BCNU has launched a campaign to try and save visits to new moms by public health nurses (PHNs). Please sign on to the letter and encourage your friends to do so as well. http://www.bcnu.org/campaigns_issues/vi ... tition.htm
Two hundred people have signed letters to the Premier and Health Minister from our website in three days.
The government is reconfiguring the home visit to new moms service to target women at risk...under 25, low income, first child etc.. Other Moms will get a phone call. We’ve had a lot of commentary and action about the issue on our Our Nurses Matter Facebook site and the public is very concerned. Art Moses and I have been trying to message these folks and encourage a Mom to come to a BCNU News Conference, but as yet no takers.
We are having the news conference tomorrow at the BCNU office at 11. We really need a new MOM and her child to attend, especially if she doesn’t fit the government’s criteria and had a real benefit from her Public Health Nurse visit.
We know for a fact that many Moms of who don’t fit the new government criteria have had serious circumstances for themselves or their baby addressed because the PHN new mom home visit.
If you have a personal friend or associate who has had such an experience and would be prepared to come to the News Conference tomorrow morning and simply tell her story in order to help us, please let Sharon Costello know or have the Mom contact me directly ASAP. Cellular 604 868 4261. Thanks.
Sharon
