Job Description:
Sr. SYBASE DBA – RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTION

Summary:
MSD is an employee-owned company of over 500 professionals who support the diverse technical, scientific, and administrative needs of the Federal government. We are currently searching for an experienced Sr. Sybase DBA to support one of our clients at the National Institutes of Health. This opportunity is permanent, full-time, and on site in Bethesda/Rockville, MD.
Job Duties:
Our client requires the services of a Sr. Sybase DBA to support scientific efforts within the prestigious National Institutes of Health.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
-Lending their expertise in the design, product development, and operations related to the Institute database.
-Design and implementation of complex stored procedures and triggers; work with onsite developers to produce database solutions
-Perform database configuration management and upgrades for production environment.
-Develop programs in Visual Basic for various in-house projects.
-Analysis of internal business processes; develop recommendations for business process re-engineering; and provide guidance acting as a mentor to junior level developers and programmers
Additionally:
-Will be responsible for the design and implementation of new databases; will analyze and enhance existing legacy database schemas to improve performance
-Review new and existing code for performance, security, and standards compliance
-Develop web-based and command line database tools and reports using Perl, ksh, and other languages.
Required Skills:
-Candidates should have experience with working in a heterogeneous environment comprising of multiple applications.
Previous experience developing custom software in Java, C/C++, PowerBuilder, MS-Access, Visual Basic, and other languages is required
Previous experience as a Project or Team Lead within an IT consulting group is preferred.
Advanced Degree in the information technology field is preferred.
Technology Required:
SQL related database experience, Unix, PERL, C++, ERWin, JavaServlets, MS Access, MS Project, MS SQL 6.5, MS Visio, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL 7.x, PowerDesigner, Sybase Adaptive Server, Sybase SQL Anywhere, MS Office
Programming Languages Required:
ASP, Awk, CSS, HTML, JavaJDK, JSP, Perl, PHP, Unix Shell, VBA _JavaScript, Visual Basic
