SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Private held starup is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our team and participate in development of web services, data synchronization, push notifications and mobile web applications. This is a senior development position responsible for software design, implementation, peer review, documentation and mentoring. It also includes cross-functional work with product management, quality assurance and systems engineering. Candidate must be a good team player and must enjoy architecting scaleable solutions to support the rapid user growth as we take on new mobile markets locally and worldwide.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design, develop and extend Java-based frameworks and application.
• Build and deploy solutions for problems of sizable scope, scale and complexity.
• Support day-to-day functional maintenance of the web-based services that your team owns.
• Work with cross-functional teams to design, implement, test and support the mobile platform.
• Work with QA automation to improve testability.
• Work with network operations to reduce operational complexity.
• Work with performance engineering team to address performance and scalability issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• BS/MS in Computer Science or an Engineering discipline
• 4-6+ years commercial software development, preferably in Internet or product development companies
• Experience building Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) at high volume, including Web Services (SOAP and/or REST)
• Understanding of web services technologies such as SOAP, HTTP, WSDL, XSD, and REST
• Fast learner, able to pick up new ideas and approaches quickly. Enjoys brainstorming on design and loves problem solving
• Acute attention to detail and rigorous approach to thinking and proficiency in OO design
• Commitment to delivering quality, tested implementations and continuous professional improvement
• Experience with relational data modeling and one or more ORM technologies (Hibernate preferred)
• Prior IOS, Android, and/or Blackberry development experience
• Experience with the following:
o Spring: Spring Transactions, Spring MVC
o Build: Ant and Maven
o ORM: Hibernate, iBatis, or ActiveRecord
o XML: XML, XML Schema, XSL
o Transports: JMS, HTTP
o DataStores: NoSQL datastores such as MongoDB, Cassandra

Не обращайте внимание. ereksa, несмотря на то, что, видимо, живёт в Торонто, не очень знакома с рынком IT труда там. Рынок очень разный. В Торонто конкуренция настолько высокая, что во многих конторах $75K для сениор девелопера не редкость.

Couple of notes.

A recruiter that offers 75 K for a senior developer position in a start-up company is either a joke or a moron. Either way should be recycled. 75 K for a senior java developer CAN only be justified in big banks or something of that sort, you get 2 more days of paid holidays in big banks, more sick days, more paid vacation, great benefits, pension package, options to buy stable bank stocks for half a price, option to double them, list goes on and on. And not even only in big banks, but in big corporations you get something close to this. So the 75 K is being offset by some nice goods, stability, prestige that come with it for example if you work for a big bank. And again this is "CAN be justified", it is not "WILL be justified". For example I was never offered 75K for years now. Not speaking of company being a start-up. In start-up company you must get more to have motivation, say 20 K worth of stocks, which of course may have potential to grow or something like that. Nothing like this is offered. So these guys are start-up, and they want to hire a cheap labor and not even share their potential growth with the new guy. Good luck with that.

Now 120 K would have been OK for start-up if the ad was reading

A senior java developer position, willing to pay 110-120K based on knowledge and experience spectrum. The margin or ad being 75-120K does not absolutely make any sense when accompanied with words senior developer. What does seniority mean? Just number of years? Does not make sense. Seniority does not just mean that you spent several years of coding.

Seems to me this company does not even know who they want to hire? A genius Java guru and willing to get him some 120K (if he agrees, which I doubth) or somebody who actually spent some quality years coding, now considers himself a senior developer and these guys want to get him for 75 K.

It's already more than a year that in Toronto area anybody who considers him/herself a senior developer is in 6 figures margin. You see a competitive market in Toronto area?

I see more jobs than specialists around...

Я видел слово "start up". Но здесь же много умников, как я вижу. Видимо, никогда не сталкивались со стартапами в Торонто, где даже за меньшие деньги хотят сениор девелоперов. И даже находят. Ситуация ситуации рознь.

Recycled или нет -- это другой вопрос. Вы про себя высказались, все видят, что вы за такие деньги не пойдёте. Не пойдёте, так промолчите тактично. Значит, объявление адресуется не вам и не мне Люди все разные. Кто-то может и заинтересуется. Тема о работе, а не о запинывании чужих объявлений.
