The federal government is set to announce Tuesday an end to the COVID-19 vaccine mandates for domestic travel on planes and trains, as well as outbound international travel, CBC News has learned.

The government may reinstate the vaccine requirement if there's a new variant of the virus, according to sources with direct knowledge of the decision who spoke with CBC News on condition they not be named.

The vaccine mandates for travel have been in effect since Oct. 30, 2021. As the mandate was phased in, travellers had a one-month grace period where they could instead provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

The government has been under pressure from the opposition parties, as well as industry organizations, to relax some public health measures in response to delays and long lineups at airports.

When the vaccine mandate came into effect for travel, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said it was to keep travellers and employees in the industry safe.

Government officials, including Alghabra, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam have pointed to mandates as an effective way of getting more Canadians vaccinated.

But experts have questioned the effectiveness of vaccine mandates for travel with the emergence of the more infectious Omicron variant. Tam has said that effective protection against the variant requires a third, booster dose.

So far, the government's definition of fully vaccinated remains two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Last week, the federal government announced that it was suspending random COVID-19 testing at airports.

At that time, Alghabra said Ottawa was taking other measures to address airport congestion, such as hiring more security screening personnel and adding more customs kiosks at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

Или запрут еще крепче. Например, постановят считать полностью вакцинированными только тех, кому последнюю прививку сделали не более скольки-то дней до вылета или прилёта.

В свете последних решений получается, что с 20 июня выпускать будут всех, но через несколько недель или месяцев пускать назад будут только тех, у кого статус вакцинации "up to date" (https://globalnews.ca/news/8919947/covi ... efinition/). Иными словами, "колоться, колоться и колоться".

во Франции так. Полностью вакцинированными считаются только бустеризованные. Ну или вакцинированные сколько то месяцев назад. Мы с нашей июльской вакциной не попадали.
И в Австрии. Прищлось распечатывать дочке (летала к родне) наш положительный ПЦР. Но ему тоже скоро полгода, теряет актуальность.

Позавчера вьехали на мащине в США, ничего даже не спросили про Ковид на границе. Даже приятно. Но зато кучу идиотских вопросов задали...

Я до последнего времени никого не винил. Люди были напуганы. Многие напуганы и сейчас.
Но после 2-х лет и всех доступных данных оправданий быть уже не может.
В происходящем виновны те, кому не хотелось дискомфорта. Как вы теперь из этого будете выпутываться, 2FV?

Похоже, только Канада и Штаты продолжают дискриминацию. Причём только Канада дискриминирует своих граждан.

А Штаты то как? Мы вьезжали 28 июня в Штаты - никто не поинтересовался нашей вакцинацией.

Очень хорошо, что так.
Однако в самолёт Канада - Америка не посадят без прививок.

В Европе осталось четыре страны, требующие PCR тестирования для въезда:
Франция, Испания, Мальта, Голландия. Все остальные страны забыли про ковид.
Португалия только что отменила, с мне как раз туда через пару недель

Австралия, и та уже отменила...
