Overview
PlateSpin requires detailed hardware inventory and monitoring information for machines in a data center. We require intimate knowledge of these operating systems in order to determine the best way to get accurate information for use in our two main products. We will provide a detailed outline of what information we need, as well as the format of how this information should be returned in code. A detailed schema that describes the required data will be provided.
Objectives
Primary Objective
Inventory information (to be defined later) for all operating systems that PlateSpin will support. Initially this will be Suse, Redhat, and Solaris(x86), but support for Solaris(Sparc), HP-UX, etc. will also be required. Specific versions of these operating systems will be defined.
Secondary Objective
For each supported operating system we also require information on the performance of the machine. We currently have scripts that gather performance information on CPU, NIC, Disk, and Memory. We would need similar scripts for the new operating systems.
Skills
Excellent understanding of *NIX platforms
System level programming experience in C++
Good understanding of computer architecture
Knowledge of discovery of operating systems and hardware
