Import: Ukrainian nurse and single mother, Olga, wants out of her über-drab existence. First she tries to make it--rather hilariously--in internet porn, then takes off for the promised land of Austria. A trained nurse, she ends up tending house for a typical bourgeois family, and then works as a grunt worker in an old-age nursing home. Export: Paul, one of the least likable characters you'll see in a film this year, fails miserably at being a security guard. He then joins his slobbish stepfather, Michael, the least likable character you'll see in a film this year, installing videogame machines in the Eastern Bloc, eventually ending up in the Ukraine. And never the twain shall meet.

Humiliating set-pieces abound in the latest staggering documentary-fiction hybrid from Austria's bad boy of humanism, Ulrich Seidl. Amazingly, it's absolutely impossible to notice which of the two cameramen (Wolfgang Thaler and Ed Lachman) shot what, so strong is Seidl's hand in the staging and shooting of each of the scenes. As usual, Seidl spent over a year building up trust and rehearsing with his cast, until all boundaries between director and actor dissolved, despite the extreme situations they might find themselves in. Over the course of the film, we discover that both Olga and Paul are struggling to believe in themselves, and that despite what we might assume initially, Import Export is not a film about borders between countries as it is about borders within societies. Light entertainment, this ain't.

If the combination of director Catherine Breillat (Anatomy of Hell, Fat Girl) and reigning mistress of darkness Asia Argento makes you feel a little nervous, you have good reason. Both women have pushed the boundaries of taste, occasionally with their tongues. (Witness Asia and her enormous rottweiler in Abel Ferraras's Go Go Tales, also in this year's VIFF).

Based on the novel by Jules-Amédée Barbey d'Aurevilly, this is the story of a ménage à trois between an aristocratic libertine named Ryno de Marigny (Fu'ad Aït Aattou), his old mistress, and his new life. Argento is Vellini, an Andalusian courtesan, ringleted, corseted and almost dripping sex. Is it any wonder that she draws the attention of the equally luscious Ryno, who is perhaps even prettier than his lover? They make a tempestuous pair, their torturous couplings composed of equal amounts violence and lust. "It wasn't love, but endless fury," says Ryno. But after ten years of torrid wrangling, and the tragic death of their young child, Ryno leaves Vellini to marry an angelic aristocrat named Hermangarde (Roxane Mesquida). On the eve of his wedding, he tells the girl's grandmother the Marquise de Flers (Claude Sarraute) his seamy history, maintaining that his love affair with La Vellini is now over. But of course, his old mistress might have something quite different to say about that. Argento, with her gravel-voice, dark-ringed eyes and slinking feline grace, is a wonderment to behold. She bring serious erotic heat to this costume drama, helped along by Breillat's characteristically provocative directorial style.

Priceless is a very clever comedy of manners--and morals--that sparkles like diamonds, like Tiffany’s, like the sunlit sea, like the Côte d’Azur itself. Hors de Prix does not translate as “Whore for the Prize,” but it might as well have: the criss-crossing plot manages to essay our covetousness and guilty pleasures while laughing at their sheer ridiculousness. The charismatic Gad Elmaleh (last seen in parking cars in the equally delightful The Valet) stars with Audrey Tautou (Amélie herself). Come, tonight you can have your cake and eat it too!

Это то что я нарыла пока. Наверняка самое интересное пропустила.Буду еще просматривать. Билеты лучше покупать по кредитке . В прошлом году на КАШЕ отстояли часа 3 . Народ дико активен в Ванкувере.

Только что посмотрели Призраки Гойи в рамках фестиваля. Очень понравился. Фильм Знаменитого Милоша Формана. Натали Портман. Инквизиция. Очень советую посмотреть. Кстати этот фильм можно и скачать. Правда на русском. Актеры играют очень хорошо. По-этому не знаю как будет дубляж.
