21 Italian Cineforum “Lo Sceicco Bianco” (1952) Directed by Federico Fellini, starring Alberto Sordi. Synopsis: A newlywed couple travels to Rome for their honeymoon, to have an audience with the Pope and to introduce the new bride to an uncle of the groom. While Ivan takes a nap in the afternoon at the hotel, Wanda sneaks off to find the offices of a romance magazine she reads religiously. She wants to meet the hero of a soap-opera photo strip called "The White Sheik". Mesmerized by the encounter with the star of her dreams, Wanda joins the troupe at a filming location 20 miles from Rome and ends up alone on a boat with the sheik. A distraught Ivan covers for her, claiming she's ill. That same night, both of them wander the streets, one tempted by suicide, the other by prostitutes.
