На кого больше спрос в BC - на админов или программистов?

Переезжаю в Ванкувер из Торонто.

Последние 10 лет плотно занимался администрированием юниксов и
паралельно подхалтуривал программированием.

Хотелось бы узнать мнения насчет того, кому легче сейчас найти работу - хорошему юникс админу и средненькому прграммисту (C, perl, java, php)

согласен, но лучче работать средненьким программистом... чем вообще не работать.

Key Responsibilities:

This opportunity requires a Unix Systems Administrator to be responsible for providing technical support in both test and production operation environments for specific clients. Responsibilities include implementation of systems management disciplines, tools and standard operating procedures, tuning the operating system, implementing and testing patches/upgrades, building and implementing backup and recovery strategies, developing documentation, securing the environment, providing support and resolving technical problems. The position supports all operations UNIX environments within TELUS Business Solutions.

The Challenge - Key Objectives/Deliverables in 1st 12 Months:

Define, document, and implement backup and recovery strategies for each customer's environment.
Perform and monitor backup and recovery procedures as required.
Install, configure and maintain operating system software, monitoring software and tools.
Administer system security including the set up of new user Ids and monitoring security breaches.
Monitor disk capacity and system performance through the use of appropriate tools and take action as required.
Develop, test and plan disaster recovery.
Plan and coordinate the transition of new clients.
Participate in project teams planning and implementing new client environment upgrades.
Regularly produce performance reports, and provide appropriate action required to the client.
Develop capacity and performance plans, and recommend system changes to prevent performance degradation.
Tune the operating system for optimal performance in the context of the environment's requirements.
Implement and test regular maintenance patches and release upgrades to the operating system.
Conduct performance audits as required or requested.
Establish standards for UNIX systems administration within TELUS Enterprise Solutions
Develop and maintain all relevant documentation.
Provide 2nd and 3rd level support to resolve problems.
Work with vendors to resolve vendor-related operating system "bugs" and implement upgrades.
Provide assistance/consulting to developers in the programming in the UNIX environment.
Adhere to all TELUS Enterprise Solutions standard operating procedures (e.g. Change Control, Problem Management, Service Level Agreements etc.).

Required Knowledge:

Knowledge of enterprise wide processes procedures, and tools.

Required Skills & Abilities:

- Demonstrated ability to work very independently.

- Ability to lead large projects.

- Demonstrated ability to provide technical consultation to other projects.

- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team of specialists through a project or crisis situation.

- Ability to develop the architecture for large, complex systems.

- Demonstrated ability to develop client solutions in Sales proposal situations.

Required Professional Designation/Certification:

Five to ten years experience as a Unix System Administrator in a large Corporation with exposure to enterprise wide process, procedure, and tools.
Substantial, varied experience in complex environments and situation from both a business and technical perspective.
