PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for providing engineering/technical expertise on major engineering projects, coordinating and evaluating the findings of others assigned to more routine aspects of the investigation, making recommendations and implementing approved courses of action from project inception to conclusion.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plan and perform engineering duties and/or designs to address new and varied problems with a minimum of instruction and supervision.
2. Plan and schedule complex problems in coordination with the activities of other departments.
3. Inform management on a continual basis of work progress, reporting particular delays; misunderstandings with other departments, vendors, or customers; contacts with customer representatives; technical problems and other unusual conditions.
4. Act as a lead engineer; recommending manpower requirements, coordinating activities of lower classified personnel assigned to projects; making presentations to management and customers as appropriate, preparing special reports, articles, and patent disclosures; and the development and application of ideas leading to new or improved products, new or improved processes or cost reductions.
5. Perform related duties and complete special projects as assigned.

CONTACTS:

Daily contact with all levels of personnel in internal functional departments. Ordinary courtesy, tact and knowledge of policy required. Frequent contact with vendors, customers and inspectors requiring resourcefulness, tact, and knowledge of policies and technical procedures.

DIRECTION RECEIVED:

Broad objectives are outlined and work is judged primarily on overall results with choice of method and freedom to develop methods to achieve desired results.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics or chemistry. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:
Minimum 7 years experience in an engineering position. May require specialized engineering knowledge or certifications. Ability to document procedures, communicate through reports and train others in new procedures. Ability to effectively communicate with others at all levels of technical expertise.
