Conservative Party Leadership Debate
The 2017 Manning Centre Conference will be hosting a unique debate featuring those running for leader of the Conservative Party of Canada on Friday, February 24 (3:00-5:00pm EST) in Ottawa. Here are the details:
FORMAT: While the Conservative Party of Canada has used a standard debate format (all candidates on stage at the same time), our debate format will be different, allowing candidates more time to delve into the issues and debate each other's positions. The Manning Centre's debate will begin with a random draw to separate the 14 candidates into groups of three or four. Each group will then debate one topic with two questions posed by the moderator. After the four groups have completed their debates, candidates will be given an opportunity for closing remarks. Tom Clark, a former journalist with Global News, will moderate the debate.
TOPICS: Participants will discuss the following four topics:
Taking the Lead of the Conservative Party
Taking the Lead of the Resource Sector
Taking the Lead in the Balance of Economic and Social Initiatives
Taking the Lead on Canada – US Relations
