Description:
We are seeking self-motivated, strong team players to fill the role of Track Maintainer.

The role

Track Maintainers work as a key member of a crew inspecting, repairing and replacing rails, ties, switches and ballasts.

Critical performance areas include:

· Preparing, using and maintaining various common and specialized hand tools for assigned work;

· Removing and replacing defective ties, rails spikes and anchors;

· Correcting deviations in track surface, alignment and gauge;

· Installing and repairing street crossings and railroad crossings;

· Assisting in the replacement or repair of items such as power-operated switches and insulated joints;

· Unloading or assisting in unloading ballasts, as well as unloading and distributing track material;

· Sorting used track material for loading (may load by hand);

· Clearing brush, vegetation, snow and litter from railroad right-of-way;

· Establishing and maintaining drainage;

· Cleaning up after work completion.

The ideal candidate profile

· Ability to work autonomously and adapt to different situations

· Constantly alert and prepared for unusual conditions or circumstances

· Good verbal, reading comprehension and writing skills

· Demonstration of good team skills and positive interactions with others

· Ability to analyze a situation and make decisions effectively

· Dedication to meeting established standards of quality and safety

The requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED)

· Valid driver's license

· Good eye-hand coordination and ability to grasp

· Distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 in each eye with or without glasses

· Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 70 pounds

· An average hearing threshold (in the better ear) of 40 decibels or less at 500 HZ, 1000HZ and 2000 HZ, aided or unaided

The assets

· A valid commercial driver's license

· Familiarity with Rail Operating Rules

· Experience using welding tools
