Microsoft is shutting down Skype on May 5, 2025. This applies to the consumer version of Skype, which is used for personal calls and messaging.

What will happen to Skype users?
Skype users can move to Microsoft Teams Free, which has many of the same core features
Skype users can log into Teams with their Skype credentials to access their chats and contacts
Skype users who don't migrate can export their Skype data
What about Skype for Business?
Skype for Business Online reached end-of-life on July 31, 2021. Skype for Business Server 2019 and Server 2015 remain supported until October 14, 2025.
