FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida - A flight from the Dominican Republic to Canada has made an emergency landing at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after eight passengers complained of being sick.
Airport spokesman Greg Meyer says Air Transat Flight 477 travelling from Santo Domingo to Edmonton was quarantined on the runway after it landed there at about 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
"Our fire rescue medical personnel responded to the aircraft and they encountered six adults and two children who were sick, all of the same family or ...travelling together," Meyer told The Canadian Press by telephone.
He said officials from the U.S. Centres for Disease Control interviewed all passengers on board the aircraft and determined the sick passengers were not suffering from any airborne illness.
"They all had eaten at the same place, we were told, that afternoon, so none of the other passengers experienced any of the same symptoms," Meyer said.
The eight passengers were hospitalized.
Meyer said the CDC cleared the remaining 245 passengers and nine crew members and the flight continued its trip to Edmonton at about 5 a.m. EST Wednesday.
