SURREY (NEWS1130) - Drivers who take the Port Mann Bridge will soon see its twinned structure rising out of the Fraser River. Traffic nightmares were a reality last week following the closure of the Pattullo Bridge, but if drivers avoid the Port Mann Bridge during construction, will there be delays on larger scale with this project?
Dave Crebo with the Highways Ministry says the company responsible for construction must ensure people and goods are kept on the go. "There's set out agreements to what the traffic flow will be at what times and all the rest. And all the people doing construction have to abide by that. In other words any traffic disruption would be minimal. That's what's set out -- is to ensure there'll be minimal disruptions."
He says all materials have been purchased and a crew of 8,000 workers will be ready to get started. Construction on the bridge is expected to begin in the next few weeks and should be completed in 2013
