A helicopter parent (also called a cosseting parent or simply a cosseter) is a parent who pays extremely close attention to a child's or children's experiences and problems, particularly at educational institutions.
It can be a product of good intentions gone awry
The father who called to dispute the C grade his adult son got on a college exam had good intentions. He only wanted what was best for his kid, and if that involved lobbying the University of Arizona professor for a change, so be it.

Helicopter parents defend their parenting practices, saying they are only looking out for their children's safety and education, and that they are proud to be so involved in their children's lives.
Helicopter parents are common in the younger grades. But they are also present in middle schools, high schools and even at the university level
