the irrational... but in matters as grave as the human condition, how can we allow ourselves to fall into extremes? is the universe good or bad? is a snowdrop blossoming in the alpine sun good or bad? is a tiger brutally beheading a graceful antelope good or bad? it is neither. it is both.
the human condition sure as hell is excruciating, as it is a departure from the protected world of instinct into an untested world of abstract thinking. hence the irrational. gazing into the vastness of the universe and realizing you are but an insignificant, insecure, inadequate piece of carbon with a jekyll and hyde machine for a brain. grasping own mortality, seeking refuge in self-deceit, in the unfreedom of myths and finding none. where lies the fine line that separates a genius from a psychopath? is it even there? what does it mean to be normal? what is normal?
humanity's greatest minds have peeked into the abyss of human nature seeking the universal formula for happiness, only to stumble away shuddering and speechless. malus est puer robustus
