We are seeking candidates for the position of Lead Developer - Back End in our Los Angeles, CA office.

POSITION SUMMARY
About the Company: Based in Century City, CA, MyDiscovery is a department within Discovery Communications whose mission is to develop innovative web and app products for the digital space.

Job Description: As the Lead Developer on a growing and geographically diverse development team, you employ your deep coding and hands-on technical leadership experience to review the work of the team and suggest process and application improvements. You will have the freedom to provide guidance on applicable tool chains and the flexibility to use modern frameworks.

RESPONSIBILITES
1. Perform hands-on participation in team coding.
2. Design scalable databases to deploy content to web applications used by millions of people through publically accessible, restful APIs.
3. Develop and improve upon algorithms that help deliver relevant content to users and that learn over time.
4. Design self-maintaining systems that create and reorganize hierarchy from user metrics.
5. Work with internal clients and vendors.
6. Set up servers and stacks confidently.
7. Collaborates with technical and business resources, gathers and documents requirements, formulates action plans, and provides direction for other technical resources.
8. Project management skills including ability to manage small to large projects.
9. Creates project architecture and designs, creates detailed development plans for projects.
10. Create documentation.
11. Present designs and plans to executive management.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate possesses the highest level of experience in all phases of software engineering and application architecture. We are ideally looking for these skills and experiences:
* Has extensive experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, PHP, node.js, Obj-C, HTML5, CSS 3, Javascript, Java
* Understands Chef and other automated deployment tools
* Ability to communicate designs to non-technical entities with diagrams and detailed scope
* Experience with alternative databases like Mongo DB, neo4j, hadoop
* Extensive experience with of open-source systems integration frameworks
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to excel in a team-oriented environment.
* Proficiency and excellence in application architecture and design, problem solving skills, and strategic thinking
* Amazon, LAMP experience from back in the day
* Has experience with open source project contribution
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
