JOB SUMMARY:
The Systems Engineer performs systems engineering duties to ensure high availability, adequate performance, integrity, and recoverability of data center operations. The Systems Engineer also provides consulting on various aspects of systems engineering to Meridian’s clients who host products in-house.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Contribute in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, procedures and associated plans for Microsoft system administration excellence based on industry-standard best practices.
• Research and recommend appropriate tools and procedures to meet operational requirements and fulfill service level agreements.
• Provide assistance and technical support for network design activities through development of test, troubleshooting, and operational procedures.
• Review, assess and address complex user needs; perform feasibility studies; assist in the evaluation and selection of network hardware or software.
• Recommend and deploy (where appropriate), fixes, security patches, backup procedures, environment optimizations, upgrades, in a Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 server environment to satisfy operational objectives.
• Perform operational and implementation tasks as assigned, including; assist with installs, server builds, configuring system hardware/software, assisting tech support with end user trouble-shooting, maintaining server farms, and performing upgrades for all MPS products in a hosted data center environment.
• Share 24 hrs on-call responsibilities. Occasionally work weekends and off-hours.
• Must meet or exceed individual performance goals focused on maintaining and enhancing the quality of data center operations
• Travel to the United States approximately once every 2 months for a period of approximately 1 week to provide consulting and audit services to Meridian’s clients and partners.
• Participate in department/company meetings
• As necessary, performs other duties as required.



ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
• Current related certifications (e.g., MCSE, CCNP, CNA) or equivalent work experience
• Senior Level systems engineering and administration experience in Microsoft technology environment.

KNOWLEDGE:
Must have applied knowledge in the following areas:
• Operating Systems and Technologies (Windows, Linux, .NET, IIS, ASP.NET, Microsoft clustering etc.)
• Load balancing and fire walling for OS, network and applications.
• SAN storage.
• Cisco, F5, Dell, networking appliances.
• Citrix/Terminal Server.
• Backup solutions.
• System management and monitoring products.
• Best practices in system engineering and security.
• Relational database architecture and concepts (SQL Server, Oracle).
• VB/ASP Scripting languages. Programming experience is an asset.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Must be capable of writing procedural documentation or technical white papers, making presentations to professional peers, and working closely with various development groups
• Must be able to communicate at an exceptional level and work in a collaborative team environment
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment under deadline pressure
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
• Excellent problem solving abilities
• Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of customer and company information
