High on the healthy scale is the ability to laugh at whatever life throws you.

Another mentally healthy mode, according to the psychology professor, is affirmative or bonding humour. "Sounds like we're all going to hold hands and sing Kumbaya," sniffs Breslin.

Aggressive humour gets laughs through barbed sarcasm or by making fun of another person, an ethnicity, or gender.

The other negative style is self-deprecating humour, poking fun at yourself to get chuckles from others.It's a way to make people like you. But too much is toxic.
